Default Fanuc oi-Tc control on lathe

We recently got a Large Leadwell lathe at work. It has the Fanuc oi-tc control. Maybe this is normal but when you run a program, the machine looses the tool offset when it encounters the M30 at the end of the program. I was using tool 11 and the screen was displaying T1111 but the tool offset is not active until you call it up again in the program. It runs just fine this way but if you don't Mdi the tool offset before setting the G54 work offset, the G54 will be off by the value of the tool offset. Is this the way most fanucs are? I rfear that I will set my G54 someday without first mdi the tool offset and I will crash the machine. Ive been told I could change this by a parameter.
