Default Fanuc 0M controller to PC with usb

I wanna start off with, I have been reading up on this thread (https://en.industryarena.com/forum/s...+FanucOM+to+PC) and it is really informative, but, I want to take it a step further. as my user name suggest I have a really old machine at my shop and I want to connect it to a PC, like an H-P All-In-One with touch screen. I would like to be able to use a 25 pin to usb to link the 2 computers then use a CAD and nesting software for all of the machine programming. What all do I need for this process? The cable, nesting software, CAD, and a program to communicate with the 0M board, but what is the best way to go about that? how difficult will this be? What do I need to do on the CNC computer side to get it ready to receive information from an external source?

Most any old laptop with a serial port and cable can send/receive files to the control using terminal or DNC software. If you have a TAPE mode you can DNC unlimited size files. I use a laptop with a couple of my machines but I prefer a dedicated USB to CNC interface.

I installed a Calmotion CNCUSB unit on a 15M mill a few years ago. And just installed another one on an 0T lathe. Super simple, flip to tape mode, select the file off the USB, and send. The internal version can be powered directly off the db25 connector using the Fanuc cable.

That should work with any laptop USB. All you'll need in addition is some kind of DNC software. Google cnc dnc software and you'll find several options. You can also using a standard serial terminal using XON/XOFF transfer.

    +1
The dedicated units end up being less hassle for us, less chance of operator "intervention ".
There is also some on EBay for about the same price of just dnc software that seem to work as well.
