Serial to Ethernet

My company is wanting to jump on the MTLINKi and file transfer wagon. I already have Ethernet capabilities to all of the machines but was told by the installer that it wasn't a good idea to do data collection and file transfer both over the same port. So now I am looking for a good way to convert the RS232 to Ethernet and place a switch at each machine cabinet. Is there a good piece of hardware out there for this? Or from your experience is it even necessary to split out the data streams?
