Question FAQ: Is it FANUC Zero-M or Letter-O-M ?

This has been an annoying question for a while.

Is the basic / minimalist FANUC CNC G-Code mode properly written as 0-M or O-M ?

Is this the same thing as RS-274 ?

Does 0-M / O-M exist as an actual FANUC model or is it a sort of backrevision name for a product which originally had no model number?

    ,

Sort of like how the "Apple 1" wasn't called that, but was just simply "the Apple computer" because there was no "Apple II" yet?

It is Fanuc 0 (Zero). Started out as 0MA for Mills and 0TA for lathes. Then through the years Fanuc released the 0MB/0TB but was shortly lived as the 0MC/0TC came out and was around for many years. Then the 0MD/0TD came out for a short time replaced by the 0iMA/0iTA, then 0iMB/0iTB, then 0iMC/0iTC then that was replaced by the 0iMD/0iTD which was around for many years as well. Fanuc replaced that with the 0iMF/0iTF. Each controller has different features. The biggest being that Fanuc changed the parameters structure to be closer to that of the 16/18 family with the start of the "i" series. Hope this helps.

The Fanuc systems were all numeric, and because some numbers are unlucky in Japanese etc, there is no system 4 for example.
