Fanuc 21i T lathe tool offset setting problem

I am having a problem setting the X offset on my machine (a Cincinnati Hawk) . I don't use this machine very often so it is very possible I have forgotten something. The Z seems to work fine.

At first I thought the problem was limited to 1 position - T1010, now I think it is intermittent. I cannot see a patter.

Turn a part manually, measure dimension (.656) , enter X.656 in proper row/column , press measure and - the machine calculates the wrong dimension. If I do it again it increments the dimension.

So I tried it on an empty position (T1212) and it worked as expected. And then tried again and it doesn't. Sometimes it works then not.

Can this be a battery issue?

Turns out it was a memory problem, my memory. There is an offset/measure button on the membrane keypad that needs to be hit first.

I knew this, but it has been almost a year since I ran this machine last
