    Default Pulse Coder help

I hope this has been posted in the correct place.

We have a Lathe approx 1992 with a Fanuc pulse coder which feeds position for C axis and spindle revs via two sensors at 180deg from each other, signals are put through a pre amp before going to C axis interface board in the control cabinet, part number is A860-0382-T121

This set up has not been able to be repaired by Fanuc, the machine runs fine except no C axis.

Is it possible to replace this magnetic drum ring and sensors with a different modern variation of encoder, and get all the same signals to the pre amp?

That number does not show up on my encoder list, but it most likely is a standard differential encoder, it should be possible to replicate it, but you may have to confirm the nature of the encoder.
See if there is anything else shown on the encoder as to resolution etc.

    Al

That's the number, there is little other information, it is a 65mm drum mounted on a belt driven from the spindle with 2 sensors reading it, CN1 and CN0, these cables go direct to a preamp, the preamp goes to the interface board which then as far as i know talks to the spindle motor via another preamp (identical to the other preamp) and it has a HR spindle motor also.

Fanuc have been out to this machine 3 times and have left without fixing each time.

I can send you the set up info for the sensors and pre amp, if that helps?

If you want to send it I can look it over in case it is familiar, although if Fanuc can't fix it??

Sorry I did not get back earlier, I could not find any info on the system, you may have to look out for someone that may be stripping a similar machine.

    Hi Al,

I have a OTC Lathe Spindle not working Alarm 31 . It has a HR Magnetic Pulse Coder A860-0382-T124 Preamp/Conditioner an a Single Magnetic type encoder on the Spindle motor. When I Move the Spindle the the Spindle RPM Indicates ok (works) But the Motor RPM not working, I swapped the Encoder cables and Preamp boxes, but still no Joy. When I Command the spindle forward it makes a screeching sound and errors out: 1006 Spindle error, 195 P/S Alarm. 409 Servo Alarm: (Serial error)

Al? is there a way to easy test the encoder without a cro? and please do you have the procedure to calibrate the preamp Box, there is a million pots in there>>>>>>>>>>

    Cheers
