    Default Practice for Beginners

Just getting my VMC40 up and running and actually have no idea what I can machine to get some practice in. Looking to actually make something useful not just machining for the sake of machining. Does anybody have any ideas?

    Tool holder rack

You can make clamps and stuff for your vise. Make some mittee bite pitbull clamps. Custom jaws to accept mittee bite talons.

Spend some good time calibrating and tuning and cleaning your machine and I mean all the way. Check out at man unlimited on YouTube for a step by step guide. Be obsessive about cleaning it and making sure all maintenance is done as stated in the manual. You’ll know why once a darn chip gets stuck in the Geneva drive of your atc and it take 4 hours of production to get the thing going again. Change your Belleville washers and thrust bearing and seals. While you are at it clean the carbon out of the motors. Dirt and chips in the electrical cabinet cause some serious problems fix it now while you got nothing to cut. People tend to leave those cabinets open. Track down replacement solid state relays and ice cube relays.

That should keep you busy for a couple weeks.
