    Default fadal vmc 15 - Error #9

    Hi there,

    The machine is:

    Fadal VMC-15
    Model #: 914-15
    Year of mfg: 1997

    Spindle motor: Baldor 10HP, 3ph
    Spec.: 37F71800073 X073 X173
    Frame: 215TC,
    Volts: 230/460

Baldor H2 Vector Drive purchased new in Oct. 2010.

I just fixed the X axis problem. It was a bad new axis amplifier. I bought from another source
and all the axis X, Y and Z now work.

Machine was not used for about 14 days.
I was going to start a new job.

I CS the machine – Success.
Then pressed the START – Success.
    Entered MD – Success.
Because the machine did not work on the high speed range (for 5 years), I Issued S1500 and pressed START
to make sure that the machine is on the low range of speeds. - Success.
Issued M3 then pressed ENTER to start the spindle – Faliure:

    Got the messages:
“EMERGENCY STOP – TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTION
    C AXIS FAULT(S) AS FOLLOWS:
    ERROR NUMBER #9
    SPINDLE FAULT LINE.”

    Whats going on?
    How to troubleshoot?
Did just my vector drive took nosedive?

When this happened to me, like a noob, I didn’t have the air turned on and the air cylinder didn’t engage the drive belt and faulted the machine. I believe when you turn the machine on, one of the hi or low speed cylinders should automatically engage the belt before you even CS the machine. I would have to roll out of my bed and go to the garage to double check this. I can check in the morning though.

Because he has a vmc 15 I’m going to guess that it has a 7500rpm spindle that doesn’t care if the air is on.

14 days ago did the everything work fine?

You right. My spindle would work without any air.

    Sir,

It sounds like you have an issue with the fault line on your inverter. This is an internal failure within the drive itself. Like mentioned before, check to make sure your belts are good and they engage in both high and low range. You will need to contact ITS where the inverter was purchased and ask where the fault line is going into the drive. From there you can see if the 24VDC is pulled to ground, thus the alarm. Otherwise you are looking at a new inverter. We stock them all.

Let me know how this turns out and I will help as I can.
