FLASH : PM sent.
Hi there,
VMC 15
1998
CNC 88HS
Did not use the machine for about a month.
When attempted to power it I got the following on the moitor:
======================SPACE BAR FOR NEXT MENU
UNRECOVERABLE MEMORY ERROR AT 01CC
USE THE 'NE' CMD TO CLEAR MEMORY
However neither the controller nor the machine does not respond to pressing any key.
Any suggestions ?

It is some more info on the problem.
When first start the machine it shows :
======================SPACE BAR FOR NEXT MENU
UNRECOVERABLE MEMORY ERROR AT 01CC
USE THE 'NE' CMD TO CLEAR MEMORY
and then automatically scrolls endlessly the following:
CLEAR AN EMERGENCY STOP CONDITION
PRESS THE JOG KEY TO RESET THE EMERGENCY STOP
AXIS CONTROLLER DOES NOT RESPOND TO NC
When start for the second time it shows ONLY the message:
======================SPACE BAR FOR NEXT MENU
UNRECOVERABLE MEMORY ERROR AT 01CC
USE THE 'NE' CMD TO CLEAR MEMORY
Then stops and is totally non-responsive to pressing any key.
Every think located on 1090 is non-responsive.
Pressing the RESET button on the motherboard ( Slot 5 ) the display behaves as when first start the machine.
Voltage on power supply (1220) is OK. ( +/- 12 V and 5.1V )
Voltage on power to Keyboard (1090) (on J6 ) : 5.1V
Neither key responds.
I removed physically Keyboard from the machine: all is clean, no perforation on membrane under the keys, all paths are clean, no burnouts. I re-installed the keyboard on the machine.
Behaves exactly the same.
I re-sited all the cards including the main board after replacing dead battery (lithium 3.6 V from Radio Shack).
When machine is ON pressing battery check button on the board ( Slot 5 ) lights up LED
When machine is OFF pressing battery check button on the board does nothing.
Removed all connectors and reinstalled them back.
Tried to connect via laptop but it does not allow to open the device.
On all axis boards in the enclosure there are blinking red LEDs.
It looks like the machine was turned off during brief power outage, went into emergency stop mode
and stays somewhere in limbo loop.
Is there any way to get out of this loop?
Is there any way to check if the Keyboard is OK?
Is there any way to get out of emergency stop mode without using the JOG key?

I fixed the memory problem.
This is what I did:
1- I removed an expanded memory board 1460-2A from 1400-5A and reinserted it into the slat.
This stopped scrolling.
2 – I zeroed the memory.
3 – I reinitialized memory.
3 - I and re-entered all parameters for my machine (SETP).
4 – I and re-entered all 3 relevant backlashes.
5 - Powered off CNC
6 - Powered on CNC
7 – Loaded simple program into memory.
8 – Program runs with no problems.
9 - Powered off CNC
10 – I reinstalled an expended memory board 1460-2A to 1400-5A and reinserted it into the slot.
11 - Powered on CNC
12 – I repeated the steps 2, 3, ...... 8.
Now I have a left over problem that I put in the new thread.
Title is: “Can not access a jog menu using the JOG key”.
Thanks every body who attempted to help me.
I have the same error "ÜNRECOVERABLE MEMORY ERROR AT 8600' and the space bar nor any key respond. Any recomendations are very welcome. Thanks.
Did anyone ever solve this? My old girl is doing the same thing ever since I unplugged the boards

Hello.
I´m not familiar with your machine but I have found that some memory boards rely on batteries to keep certain information. Perhaps it´s the source of your problem. I think it´s worth checking.
Now, if it is, DO NOT JUST REMOVE THE BATTERIES. It might be possible that a certain procedure needs to be followed in order to replace them. I have seen controls left totally unusable by removing all the batteries at once.
Note: the reason those controls were left unusable is not because of damage to the controls but because no programmer was found and no one knew what information was to be programmed.
Regards.
...your battery is failing or has failed...most likely. than do a Zero Memory to clear out.

Solved (without having to reinitialize the memory): I hope this may help others.
We ran into the same issue, where after booting the Fadal up a month after the machine sat, we too had this displayed, “Unrecoverable memory error (at memory address _ _ _ _)”
We resolved the issue by bring in a different program (uploaded it) into resident memory by way of the add-in expansion memory card we purchased and installed years ago. We found the memory card has been worth it’s cost due limited memory size and the unexpected occasional glitches along the way. (The expansion cards run about $700 each; but has saved our bacon numerous times).
Although we backup to and retrieve (bring in) programs via this expansion card, I believe the approach of loading a program via the handshake through the serial port would help override whatever location in memory the Fadal is stuck at.
The issue was resolved (after days of panic) and none of our programs were corrupted or lost. Should anyone need the brand name/company of the expansion card, reply and I will revise my submission.
Below is the command line input we use with the particular expansion card we installed. The name of the program is arbitrary but I wanted to be thorough:
CD,10
TA,O_ _ _ _.FD2+
(The PLUS symbol is required with that brand of expansion card. The “TA” signifies tape input)
...
This is my first post and I hope this may help anyone in need.
