Red face Getting g-code from the computer to the cnc

We are running a vmc6030 and experiencing some intermittent problems with the zip drive- typically while loading a program from the disk to the mem or the Fadal we will either get a message saying :cannot detect baud rate or simply that it cannot detect the disk drive....???

I am considering running a connection from the computer to the Fadal via the rs-232 port. My question is: Can I use the printer port from my computer?? I have read information that this can not be done due to voltage issues and / or the fact that the send and receive pins are crossed BUT I know a moldmaker who does run off the Printer Port with no problem. What is the correct way to do this????

    Thanks in advance.
    Dazed and confused!!!

    Sir,

If you are running a 32MP, there is no replacement for that Zip drive. Due to the control not recognizing or cooperating with the Zip drive, it has failed with no zip drive replacement available. I suggest you use the Calmotion USB interface with your machine and all problems are solved. Here is the part number for the interface: USBCNC-FAD88. Here is a link to more information about it: Calmotion USB Interface | Speed Shop | FadalCNC.com. Cost is $599 and in stock. Let me know if there is anything else I can help with.
