I'm on a tight budget at the moment.... so I didn't buy the most expensive vise... but it's still an upgrade for me.

So I was forced to machine up a side clamp.

My plan is to put 2 of these on each side of the clamp.

I machined these out of Aluminum.... ( I know I should have used hardened steel, but I don't have access to this at the moment, and to be totally honest I haven't done any machining of steel.... I only work with Aluminum at this point )

The sample clamp I made is plenty beefy in my opinion.... but I would like a second, or third opinion.

Attached are some photos of the aluminum clamp.

( I forgot to include the thickness of the stock.... It's 1 1/4" thick. )

I just bought a 1990 Haas VF1. I am trying to drip feed it, as the memory is very small. All the instructions say to turn on setting 55. Mine stops at setting 54. It is in Yasnac coordinate mode. Will setting that to Fanuc turn on more settings or am I just screwed? I made a rs232 cable and can upload and download programs without issue. Just the memory is too small to do much. Thanks!

I have always ran Haas machines, I currently own a sl30BB and a vf2.

Looking to ad a 2000 hs1-rp to the line up. Have no experience with Haas horizontals. The job we are taking on will in my opinion destroy the vf2 in short order I feel. We currently run parts in PVC and taking on identical parts in stainless.

The parts start out at 300+ pound stainless blanks.

they are 250 lbs after leaving the lathe, and once out of the mill will be around 150lbs. Will have lots of material removal.

We are hoping the rigidity of the hs1 will allow for better tool life and faster run times, also preloading on the outside will be huge since we are setting up a above head beam crane from lathe to horizontal.

We are currently running the pvc with a 4th axis in the vf2 and feel this wonâ€™t work well for the new parts.

Job should keep the sl30BB and hs1 busy for 6 months by my rough calculations.

Can anyone chime in on heavy cutting and rigidity of the Hs1?

Pros cons? Any insight would be awesome . I know the post it long. Going to go look at a machine Monday.

It is like I'm using single block but it is not on.

It's happing randomly not consistently yesterday it happened 3 times today it has already happened 5 times.

This is only happing in the x axis going in the x- direction not in the x+ direction.

I'm not using cutter comp.

We were observing repeatibility issues, on inspection we found that the brake drum was oozing oil when the booster pumped in oil.

The plastic Liner has a flange and that flange gets pushed and gets stuck in the hole has seen on the picture. The load on the Y axis goes up and the machine needs servicing.

The plastic liner has a flange and on my machine, the flange is facing towards the back of the machine. If any one here has a TM-1P, could you take a look if it's the same on your machine? It would be greatly appreciated.

The plastic part is easily visible with a smart phone front facing camera or a mirror.
