    Default Bumblebee 300x300x150mm

Good day. I'm new on this forum and this is my first post. I have one aluminum cnc but its not so rigid as i need, so i start to learn how to made more rigid frame for cnc.
i was choosing between cast iron and epoxy granite, and choose EG because: 1 damping properties; 2 i can made it by myself. So i start to read themes and articles about EG about fillers and resin, start making test mixes and after about 2 month was born first 2 parts of my new mill.
as filler i was use quartzite and gravel and quartz sand 0.1 to 5mm (0.1-0.3 600 grams; 1-3 2000 grams; 3-5 - 2400 grams for 900 grams of epoxy). so what can i say - it was easy - i made mold with steel cores, mix and fill this mold) after curing and aftercuring all was milled grinded and assembled. I am really satisfied with result. and of course - some photos and videos attached. And sorry about my terrible English.

Outstanding! Did you vibrate the pour/how?
What machining did you do to the steel mounting surfaces?

Thank you. After curing, all surfaces was milled on big milling machine and finishied with a surface grinding machine. I didn't use vibration, just dump it with big steel cube. And some photos of process....

    Nice Work!

I'd like to see what it can do with a half inch bit and a much larger piece of aluminum to really push it to it's limits.

    Well done.

She's a beauty! Awesome job. How did you put the design together?

Is there any particular reason why you didn't use a colored gel coat on the mould before filling it with granite? You'd have gotten a smoother finish and could have avoided painting it later. Gel coat is a layer of thin epoxy painted on the mould and allowed to set up to tackiness before the rest of the composite is layed up. It is often pigmented to achieve a desired color.

Thank you. Epoxy stick with a mold. I use pva for mold but it was to hard to release it. Now his driving with DMM servos and i realise i need more powerfull lpindle.

Very impressive build indeed! How much do your base and gantry weigh? What kinds of feed rates and accelerations are you getting? How does the machine compare to your expectations when you designed it? Do you feel it fell short, met, exceeded or wildly exceeded expectations?

Thank you. This machine was made as hobby, for my shop. i was made it about 6 month with including time for study and experiments with best mix for me. And this one compare all my expectations - really rigid frame and heavy. Base net weight about 80 kg gantry about 60. i was instal stepper temporary but now installed servos. i want do replace all aluminum pats for cast iron and steel and install more powerful spindle. Maximum feed is 7200 mm/min (limited by soft) no need higher. acceleration for tests 5m/s2, but this acceleration made scary cabinet shaking so i decrease it for 2.5m/s2. there is some videos Thank you

Why did you decide to replace the steppers with servos?
