Hi,

We acquired this system about a year ago and for the first 4 months or so if work fine for the limited number of jobs we had/it was capable of. It the started to stop half way through the job - the carriage stopped moving but the spindle seem to speed up. The only way to reset was to totally power down and restart. If you gave it the same job again it didn't stop at the same point in the job. .

We checked all the connections, cleaned all the fans and heatsinks and reseted all the boards and chips. Nothing seemed to change the behavior.

Bearing in mind the age of the system - the youngest chips on the boards in the controller were dated Nov 1993 - we decided to cut our losses and replace the computer and controller with a Raspberry Pi/Protoneer system. In addition we wanted to use it for more than just engraving text signs but as the dongle for the windows (3.1) software wasn't with the system this was impossible.

This brings me the questions:

We are reasonably happy with the control of the stepper motors using the Protoneer board but are unable to work out the connections/contol of the spindle motor. There appear to be 9 connections from the motor to the control card. Does anyone know the pin out?

Is there a market for the old controller box? The front panel is in good condition.

If this post is in the wrong place please advise where I should go for advice.

Thanks

Tony
