Job Overview

This position is open to CNC Machinists of all skill and experience levels, from CNC Operators all the way to experienced CNC Programmers. This position is responsible for CNC operation, setup, and possibly programming using all modern DMG MORI multi-axis CNC lathes, Vertical Machining Centers, Horizontal Machining Centers, 5-axis mills and CNC screw machines using ESPRIT or CAMWorks CAD/CAM packages from 3-D models. 1st and 2nd shift positions available:

1st shift – 6:00am to 4:30pm, Monday through Thursday
2nd shift – 4:15pm to 2:45am, Monday through Thursday
2nd shift earns a $2.00/hr shift differential
Overtime, if any, is worked on Fridays. No weekends are worked.


Here are the specifics:

Perform quality inspections to ensure Speedway’s quality standards are maintained using precision measuring instruments including gages, calipers and micrometers to accurately measure components and finished parts
Monitor CNC productivity and efficiency and provide suggestions for areas of improvement to quality and productivity
Operate, setup, and program a variety of CNC lathes with live tooling, Y-axis and Sub Spindles, CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers and manual machines which include: mills, lathes, saws, drill presses, grinders and miscellaneous hand tools
Setup and operate lathes, mills and drill presses using established safety procedures
Monitor tooling life to prevent scrap
Support the process of continuous improvement and team building at Speedway Motors
Maintain clean and orderly work areas
Performs minor machine maintenance such as cleaning and lubrication of machines
Ability to maintain good attendance in accordance to Speedway’s attendance policy
Perform all other duties as assigned or needed

Work Environment

In an effort to keep our Speedway family safe we have implemented safety measures including PPE, temp checks and rigorous cleaning schedules for those that are working on campus. We’ve also implemented safety measures including working from home for those that are able. This position requires you to occasionally lift and carry <50 lbs. and rarely push/pull up to 100 lbs and be on your feet constantly. Our machine shop is clean, organized, air conditioned, and temperature controlled.


What you’ll need to succeed in this position:

A motivated individual that is willing to work hard and is looking for a great team
Ability to operate CNC lathes and mills and ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure
Ability to program from a CAD/CAM package a plus, but not required
Must be able to read blueprints and use precision measuring tools
Must be familiar with basic machine shop equipment
Must work safely following established safety policies and procedures
Computer literate, excellent interpersonal and strong writing and communication skills
Maintain regular and reliable attendance.


Preferred Experience:?

High school or GED required. Prefer precision tooling degree with two years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
