Default Eding CNC - CPU5A4 - Gecko Drives

I put a Prefix of NEWBIE, because I'm new to Eding CNC software and cpu board.

I have a 3 axis X3 mill setup with Geckos 203v's, so I was going to get the 3-axis board, but got the 4-axis board instead. ( I may want to add a 4th )
I am considering a 3-axis Board for my Lathe. I'm also considering a 4'x4' router build.

Paypal exchange is a little over $0.71us to 1 euro
    251euro(4-axis board) + 36Euro(Shipping) = 287Euro / .71 = $404USD

    Cheers,
    Jack

PS - On the Shipping address I put my State in the Region(abbreviation) zone

    Hi Kees,

I'm sure I'll have a few questions soon. My package from Eding CNC is in the states now. Should be on my doorstep in a couple of days.

I'm not an electrical person and will need some help with hooking everything up. When I did my control boxes before, I studied pictures from other peoples threads and taught myself where to put everything. I was hoping to do the same with this new setup, but am having trouble finding detailed pics of wiring.

I'm just looking to have a 4 axis machine with a mpg and tool setter, that will run on newer computers.

    Thanks for the reply,
    Jack

    Thanks,

I've downloaded everything I could find on EdingCNC's website before I ordered the software and board.

I'm just not comfortable around Electronics. I don't want to let the magic smoke out.

It says I don't need a Breakout Board (BoB).......... My Gecko drives use ground from the BoB for common

if you take care Not to connect a plus voltage to a minus connection you won't see or smell smoke . A wire is a wire (although a shielded wire is better in most cases) Just follow the manual step by step.. worst thing that can happen is that it doesn't work at once.. then you have to find out what you mis-interpreted.
Can you mail a link to the datasheet of the Gecko-drives? i will take a look at it and see if i see some difficulties.
On a dutch site (cnczone.nl) i made a topic on how to build a complete machine mechanical and electrical, step by step to guide beginners around all the problems they can encounter. I'm sure i can do that in english too (although i'm dutch and my english may not be highschool Oxford or whatever .. )

Your English is good, probably better then mine. I know 2 languages, English and Bad English.

I'm sure I'll love the Eding CNC gear

    Thanks again for your help,

Ah, Ok.... seen from the box, you need a positive pulse to drive Dir and Step while other drivers have a common + and will be driven by a signal to ground.
I will check later if this can be done without any extra's lik linedrivers or inverters
I'm on holyday right now with nothing more than a smartphone and wacky caribbean internet... (like it was 10 years ago in the rest of the world: very slow with interuptions )

    What drives are you using?

Thanks for looking and have a great holiday.

The 4-axis usb board made it here today.

I guess I should order a new dedicated computer to run it.

    Thanks Kees,

I just ordered a few breakout connectors for the control box setup.
I was thinking about putting the Eding cnc cpu in it's own box, separate from the computer or control box. So, I got a DB25 and DB9 breakout connectors that mount on DIN rail inside of control box.

    OR

Mount the Eding cnc cpu inside the control box with captive mount DB25 and DB9 breakout connectors.
Spent to much on them, but it should make wiring easier.

My CPU5A4E is boxed in his own aluminum box. Therefor i made a "breakoutPCB" where all wires are soldered to.. BTW. On the picture is my former card without Ethernet..

Can't find it.. only that the prices are Excl tax (BTW=21%) now.. almost everyone has to add this 21% Tax to the listed price.
But Bert Eding himself often gives a discount on CNC-meetings when you buy them there directly from him.. at leaest the last two times when i met him there he had some cards with him for reduced prices.
But that's not near your habitat..

I ordered those breakout boards online Sunday and they arrived today.
I bought 2 DIN mount boards and 2 captive mount boards.
Here's a pic of the captive mount with the Eding CPU board:
