    Robert,

    For manual control via the VFD keypad make the following changes...

    02-00, set it to 00
    02-01, set it to 00
    02-03, it should be set to 15
    02-04, set it to 00
    02-05, set it to 00
    02-10, set it to 00
    02-11, set it to 00
    02-12, set it to 00
    02-13, set it to 00
    02-14, set it to 00
    02-15, set it to 300
    04-07, set it to 00, this is still temp due to ESTOP

    After you get these all set in the VFD and exit the set parameter commands, then go ahead and power down the VFD.

    Power it back up and the VFD should be ready to test the spindle using the VFD keypad.

    If you don't know how to tell the spindle how to spin from the VFD let me know.

    Hi Russ,

    OK, I set the VFD to the new settings but I will need your help in how to run the VFD. Also, what number should I be seening on the PU01 display? They seem off to me.
    In the stop setting:
    "F" = 300
    "H" = 0.0
    "U" = 18000
    "HU" = 0.0
    -Frd-

    In the run setting:
    "F" = 300
    "H" = "18000
    "U" = 18000
    "HU" = 8910
    -Frd-

    Russ,

    Also, in the user manual it show a screen display for current, shown with an "A" in the screen. I do not know how to display this screen. When I run through the "mode" options it never shows up. I don't know if this is important.

    Robert,

    When you first power up the VFD the following should happen.

    The LED's "F", "STOP" and "FWD" should all light up.

    The display should show a number with the least significant digit flashing. This is the frequency selected for the motor initially

    If this looks correct, you are ready for a Trial Run

    You can press the DOWN ARROW key to reduce the frequency to 10 or 20 Hz

    Now press the RUN , the motor should start spinning in the foward direction normally clockwise.

    When you have confirmed the motor is spinning you can press the STOP/RESET key.

    You can change the frequency to higher if this works and run the test at different speeds.

    The highest speed is 300Hz on this Spindle.

    Let me know what happens, we are doing this to confirm the VFD and Spindle motor are working correctly. When you programmed the VFD with the data I provided we are taking the K2CNC controlled and KFLOP and Kmotion completely out of the picture.

    Robert,

    Here is a better VFD manual for your Delta VFD, more details, even troubleshooting guides. Might want to save this file for use at some point in the future after we get things all working.

    Russ,

    I changed all the programing twice and still no spindle power. Everything is like you said to start, I can change the "F" number up and down hit run and no power to the spindle.
    Thanks for the manual!

    Robert,

    Run the following experiment. Disconnect the power to the VFD, unplug it from the wall and wait 5 minutes to ensure all CAPS inside the VFD discharge. Now you want to measure between each phase of the spindle motor. You can access these legs by the VFD terminals U,V,W. Set your meter to OHMS, and measure the ohms in each phase.

    U to V
    U to W
    V to W

    There should be a low reading on each of these, write them down. If you get an open you have found your issue.

    The next thing you want to do is measure each phase to GROUND. None of these should go to ground.

    U to Ground
    V to Ground
    W to Ground

    All of those should be very high readings, almost infinite. You might need to disconnect the wires from the VFD if you get strange readings. The other approach is to remove the connector at the Spindle motor itself and measure between the various pins, same test.

    Russ,

    The first part I'm sure I did correctly but I'm not sure about the second part.
    U to V =.6 ohms
    U to W =.6 ohms
    V to W =.6 ohms

    U to Ground = OL
    V to Ground = OL
    W to Ground = OL

    I expected a reading of some kind? The spindle was disconnected and the VFD was unplugged.

    Robert,

    Those reading appear correct to me. They should be low between phases but not zero ohms, and you should never be able to get a reading from Spindle phases to ground, which indicates a phase is shorted to ground. OK that stuff looks good, lets see if we can get the spindle to JOG.

    Also did you attempt to rotate the spindle by hand without power applied, should turn very smoothly.

    Yes, it rotates freely.

    Robert,

    OK, that is good and would appear the spindle reads good, and moves good. Let me send you some instructions on how to see if you can JOG the motor. One second.

    Robert,

    Before we start the JOG exercise please let me know exactly what is showing on screen when you first power up the VFD with Spindle attached.

    Russ, this is what I have for the VFD on start up.
    "F, stop, and FWD" lit.
    readings:
    "F" = 300
    "H" = 0.0
    "U" = 18000
    "HU" = 0.0
    -Frd-

    Robert,

    This is a troubleshooting guide "7.9 Motor cannot Run" on page 7-6.

    Can you walk through this flow chart and check the various steps. I am suspicious that you might not have an output voltage on U,V,W while in RUN.

    I am studying the setting in your VFD one more time to see if I missed something.

    Robert,

    Can you please check these settings one more time.

    00-00 This are READ ONLY
    00-01 This are READ ONLY
    00-02, this is normally set to 00, but can be used to reset all parameters, DO NOT CHANGE YET
    00-03, this is normally set to 00, so the Frequency Command is displayed
    00-04, this is the current setting for the Motor the VFD is seeing
    00-05, this is normally set to 1
    00-06 this is the software version, READ ONLY

    Robert,

    After we see your setting you can run this experiment.

    If all the parameters are set correctly, and the VFD and Motor are both good this should happen.

    When you come up you only have to press the RUN key and the motor should run at the frequency listed on the display.

    When you press the STOP key it should stop running the motor.

    If you press the JOG key and hold it down the motor will run until you let your finger off the JOG.

    Watch the attached short video using the exact same VFD as yours just smaller power model. Sorry it would not let me upload the little video it was 3MB and the limit is 500K.

    Russ,

    Quick question, when the pr is READ ONLY does it matter what number is seen or should it be set to 00? All of my READ ONLY have number values. Also, 00-05 is set to 60.00 not 1.

    Robert,

    I just want you to read all those parameters, those get populated when the VFD is powered and there is a spindle attached. I am checking to see if they look correct.

    It is possible that you guys had some kind of power hit and the VFD parameters got trashed. If the numbers you provide look good we might try a factory reset on the VFD and see if we can get the spindle to spin.

    Russ,

    Yes, I think we might have had a mini building power outage. During the week before I noticed the problems the lights in the building keep going on and off. The City is doing work down the street.

    Robert,

    Those look correct, except the second one. That should be 11 for your motor but it should not be displaying ERROR

    I think the VFD got glitched during one of your power hits. WE can attempt to reset the VFD to factory defaults and see if it comes up where we can make the adjustments. A good test will be to look at these parameters after the reset to see if the ERR is now gone.
