Ghosts in my KFLOP CNC machine

Sometimes if I jog or move an axis using KmotionCNC - another axis will make a move as well. Sometimes it goes away but itself or I have to cycle the power to the board. Spooky and unnerving to observe...

Anyone else experiencing this? Not sure where to start troubleshooting.

Hi Tim,

Yikes! What type of motors/drives/boards/configuration do you have? Jogging from On-screen arrows? What KMotion Version are you using?

Took me awhile but I finally mounted the motors and as I played with the system (aka: pressing the on-screen arrows) I initially noticed the random behavior of my Z-axis (channel 2). When I cycled the power it seemed to go away.

When I tried out a test program and clicked the on-screen stop button, the behavior started up again (jogging either channel 0 or 1 would result in movement from channel 2 afterwards) Went away by itself after a few jogging cycles on channel 0 & 1).

When I get my usb isolator - I will try to replicate the observation.

Hi Tom,

I hooked up my laptop and the KFLOP card was not recognized (disconnected). I tried all the other USB ports on the laptop and tried connecting directly rather than the USB isolator and still no go. I'm wondering if the card got damaged when my laptop got damaged as well. Any suggestions?

Hi Tim,

How are you +5V powering KFLOP? Do the LEDs Flash when power is applied?

In Windows Control Panel | Device Manager | Universal Serial Bus Controllers is the KFLOP device shown?

Yes - they flash about 2 times then go solid. Initially it was powered by both the USB cable and a +5V power supply. I have since disconnected the power supply and have the card powered only by the USB.

You shouldn't use two power sources for KFLOP.

Would I able to send my KFLOP back for repair if possible? Long story short - I may have fried the USB chip again...

Literally did the same thing by plugging both the 5V and USB into KFLOP. Many years have past since my last attempt and when I discovered a loose wire in my control panel...

Connecting two different 5V Supplies to KFLOP at the same time normally wouldn't cause damage. But they might fight each other if not exactly the same voltage. So maybe something else occurred?

No repairing KFLOPs isn't cost effective. If you want to try to replace the USB chip we can supply the part number. We can offer a 20% discount on a new board if that helps. Contact support and reference this.
