26-Pin IDC Ribbon Cable to DB25 Male, 8 in Length (CA118)
Hi Everyone,
Has anyone connected a KFLOP to a C10 breakout board?
I've started my first CNC project (G0704) and have ordered a Keiling 3-axis stepper motor kit to go along with my newly ordered KFLOP.
The kit came with the C10 breakout board which looks like a convenient way to hook up all the drives and sensors. However, the connection between the C10 and the Kflop is unclear to me as it appears to have two different ports (25pin Parallel -> 26pin IDE(?)
Am I making things more complicated? Help!
Thanks,
Tim

Hi Tim,
Its not that bad, i first thought that also. Start with the KFLOP manual. Then start making a wiring diagram on paper or software. This helped me alot. This will also help Tom from Dynomotion, who provides great support.

Thanks for the encouragement and advice. Wiring diagram is a good idea.
Hi Tim,
KFLOP's JP7 26 pin IDC Connector is not the same pinout as a PC Parallel port and there are more IO pins and so forth. If you just plug them together 1:1 you will cause damage. You will need a custom cable to connect to the C10.

Thanks Tom for the headsup. I've read the post several times and am slowly starting to understand. I followed Troy's advice to do a wiring diagram. Below/attached is an image of my IO map from C10 -> KFLOP or LPT -> IDE26
Does it look alright or optimized? Not sure how to get full use of all the LPT I/O since there aren't the same number of +5V DIO on the KFLOP...
Do all the inputs need +5V?
Thanks,
Tim

Hi Tim,
Nice diagram but no that isn't correct :}
The 8 Step/Dir Signals must be connected to KFLOP (IO 8-15) JP7 pins 15-22. As those are Hardware Step/Dir Generators and must use specific pins. See here
There are 18 Digital IO on KFLOP JP7 and 17 on a parallel port so you will have one KFLOP JP7 DIO unused.
They are all +5V tolerant/compatable except IO44 and IO45 which are 3.3V. So use IO44 as an output and don't use IO45.
You will also need a GND connection.

Hi Tom,
I've updated the wiring diagram. Does this look right?
Thx,
Tim
Hi Tim,
That looks correct to me.

Phew - thanks!
Hi,
I have made similar cable and connected to C10 card. But no movement. But if I connect KFLOP signal directly to drive, motor moves.
Hi Vikram,
Check if your axes are configured for open collector or TTL mode. Should be TTL mode for the C10 with TTL inputs. ie OutputChan0=8. See here.
