A small update as I wait for my SMD fuses to repair my MX3660. Just a reminder don't pull the power plug at the unit immediately after turning off the power supply. Let it bleed down for a moment or two. No problems there, that was an easy diagnosis.
I did come up with a way of installing a pulley in place of the old plastic gear, reusing the original hub. I plan on installing the stepper under the bed, out of the way.
    Here are a few pics.
The Dyna Myte 3000 Project-imageuploadedbytapatalk1386368622-201133-jpg This is the original hub.
The Dyna Myte 3000 Project-imageuploadedbytapatalk1386368663-766932-jpg I recessed the pulley just enough to keep it centered.
The Dyna Myte 3000 Project-imageuploadedbytapatalk1386368729-883686-jpg Checked for fit prior to drilling.
The Dyna Myte 3000 Project-imageuploadedbytapatalk1386368774-400432-jpg It fits.
The Dyna Myte 3000 Project-imageuploadedbytapatalk1386368817-633844-jpg This it it installed. Now on to the stepper mounts.

If anyone is interested the hub is 1.57" in diameter, .1665" thick at the mounting flange and the center hole is .79" Fits like a glove.

Stepper mount testing. Looks good. Going to shorten it a little bit. Btw the motor could fit on the front instead of under the bed. Direct drive is not a possibility on the X due to clearance issues of the carriage itself. The Dyna Myte 3000 Project-imageuploadedbytapatalk1396186084-395164-jpgThe Dyna Myte 3000 Project-imageuploadedbytapatalk1396186114-709580-jpg
Also you might notice a little groove between the 2 mounting holes on the left side. If you are going to use a different "top of part" in a pocket, remember your clearances must be higher. Sometimes I am glad I cut a proof in MDF. Plus I am waiting for some end mills.

Nice Build Log, Fastest1. I just picked up my 3000 over the weekend. Going to try to get it running as it came from the factory at first. But definitely want to upgrade to Gecko's, etc in the near future.
Please keep posting pics and info.

    Fastest1,

    - Which controller did you end up with for the Spindle motor?
    - Was it difficult to interface this to your Break Out Board and Mach3 ?

Thanks for your info on your build.

I was just checking for fit at this time. Unfortunately right as I was cutting the part free on a roughing pass, it slipped. I thought I had the part clamped tightly separate from the vise. I did catch it in time. Tomorrow I will fix it to the table and pick up a datum point in 1 of the holes and do the finish pass, likely have to adjust it a thou or 2 now. 2 days in the vise only to have a crash at the end. Typical.

I learned quite a bit making this part. It came out of the vise once. Lost tram in 1 crash. Fixed it all, realigned it and recovered.

The interior of that part has had no clean up of any kind. See if it the exterior looks that good tomorrow!

Here it is finished and fitted. Will redo the cover as that was some scrap I made on my wooden proof. Likely omit the slot and route the wiring out the right side.
