Hello folks, I've been happily using my homebuilt CNC going on 16 years now. I have had a persistent issue that I would like to avoid in my next build. I am running an EZCNC (long since extinct) controller, gecko drives, and servos with my own proprietary software that outputs native G-code. I also use Artcam. Rather I use my own G-code or code from Artcam, I experience occasional feedrate surges when my machine is doing 3-axis interpolation moves. I have not been able to detect a pattern, I would say it seems to happen mostly when there is a longer point to point move, but I cannot confirm. I have tried countless acceleration curves and speed settings. I've even tried adding a feedrate value on every line of code, it will still surge at certain points in the toolpath. I get zero feedrate deviation while doing 2-axis cutting. Do you guys experience feedrate surges with your controllers? What controller are you using, and how consistent are your 3-axis carving feedrates? Thanks!
