Default Painting a metal framed CNC Router

I assume that if a steel framed CNC Router, with machined surfaces, is to be painted, that the area under the linear rails is left naked,as it were, as the paint would make re-aligning the rails again difficult?
If so, does one used anything under the rails to stop rust?

If it is a machined surface as it should be and the rail is correctly fastened then it is not going to rust, for piece of mind you could put an anti-rust oil or grease on the surface before assembly

You try and paint first then machine any mounting surfaces
