Still, in my book, any fastener whatever shape and nomenclature is still inferior to a solid piece.

That would chop the single long 80x160 main horizontal beams that runs the length of the machine into four smaller sections requiring fasteners there which would compromise the strength – just in a different spot. Should be receiving the aluminum via freight next week. Very excited to start building.

    Hey DiveN4Gold,

    any progress on your machine?
How happy are you with damen? Am considering a similar approach as yours., with some parts from them..am in europe so makes sense i guess..

Am considering a long bridge as my long axis, similar to most surfboard shaping machines (just stiffer), so access from the side is more open with no linear motion in the way..Materials are mostly soft woods and foam for snowboard and surfboard building, so i guess by reinforcing the back of the 160x80 with some L-profile i shoud hopefully get enough stiffness to still be able to profile my woodcores to a rather tight tolerance..Length would be around 2000mm..Tolerances in x/y aren't a big issue, only z...so R&P in xy i guess but servos and a csmio control..

    Cheers, Andi

    They don't come close.

This is an old thread, don't know if he has finished this build.
