    I think they might be a bit puzzled by people going through the tiles with a micrometer,seeking an exactly parallel piece.

    Granite should work, but only if one makes sure the tile is truly flat and coplanar. Some tiles aren't flat & coplanar enough for accurate tramming. Unfortunately, probably not possible to check them in the store to any degree of precision.

    FYI granite is slices cut with a saw and one side polished more than the other. Its actually cut after the grinding and polishing. Very exacting process, You Tube videos if your interested.
