Did a bit of milling in acrylic to test the part sizes.....had my clamp meter connected to record the max current drawn. Must say that i was very surprised how little current the machine consumed.

The spindle was running at 14000 RPM...

I have the same Fluke meter! What I was wondering and I need to look it up, if it reads the spindle power leads correctly at anything other than 50/60 Hz?

Looks like it will AC Amps

    Range 0 - 999.9 A
    Accuracy 2% ± 5 counts (10-100 Hz), 6% ± 5 counts (100 - 400 Hz)
    Crest Factor(50/60 Hz) 3 @ 500A, 2.5 @ 600A, 1.42@1000 A, add 2% for CF>2
    AC Response True-rms

I measured from the temporary main supply....so it measured the total current consumed by the entire machine. It's a true rms meter so it should be accurate.
Of course the spindle would draw more when loaded , but its still much less than i expected. I was running temporarily from a 10 A outlet

Milled the first few holes in the t-slot base. It seems to handle the aluminium milling okay. Managed to get some brush and acrylic for the dust shoe. Meantime the 6040 is getting a service, some bearings will be replaced before the new owner pic it up. This little machine really performed very well!! Maybe this would be a good size machine to start with making

Bed milled and secured. It helps a lot when everything is nice and square

Erics, do you remember where you got the drag chains from?

They look nice. The ones I have are really bad.

Yes it is exciting True, spoil board and dust extraction....then i can finish making all the bits and pieces. The 6040 is sold but when i gave it a service i found a few issues. Getting a complete overhaul

That's better than the plastic gland you had, at least you can ground the shield with that plug

Today i milled a couple of pieces to check the accuracy. Must say i am very happy with the results. The mill finish is great and even though i have not completed the setup and calibration everything is close to size and square.

A few things i am looking at changing. I was running the machine from my laptop....plan to rather use my desktop, only issue is it is Windows 7/32 bit so i need to install the 64 bit W7.
Also i will still stop and start the spindle through uccnc but i might take over the speed ref....it's just personal choice. Ordered a wireless pendant, will see how it goes

If you have a UC300ETH, just add a pot for spindle override, and you have the best of both worlds. Just turn the knob to change the speed.
