What size threaded rods did you use for that?I'm really impressed with how much pressure that the vise can applies and it doesn't rack
Pressure would be my main concern with that handwheel.
How hard is it to clamp a two pieces of stock, one on each side, without having 3 hands?

I have a similar vise system in the end my old work bench that used an old work mate hardware. You have to turn two handles to clamp something.
It works well and when I need something to sit in there precisely, I use two hand spring clamps. From there you can apply a little pressure and adjust as needed. Then final tighten. Works pretty well. I have cut box joints with it like that.

I used 1"-4 threads per inch acme rod. You don't have to put much pressure on the wheel to hold wood. It generates a lot of force. I have not tried to clamp more than one piece at a time. It holds no matter where you put it in the jaws because both sides move the same distance so there is no racking of the jaws. I put a slight bow in the middle to help with pressure as there is some give to the middle. I did use it to drill the aluminum square tubing for the insert and it held with out any problems.

I finally have some time to work on router. Need to get rails mounted for router head. Will try and get some pictures tonight.
I need some adjustment on columns so I'm using set screws between plates to give some fine adjustment if I need it. I don't know if this is to smart but welding tends to warp so I'll see.

Awesome job on the vice. I've set my router up to allow me to machine vertical pieces, but it's no where near this slick.

I wanted to try and make it as versatile as possible and being able to remove vise section will allow large pieces to stand vertically.

My back ground is in matenance so I have learned to do a lot with very little and just dumb enough to try it. All the stainless is from scrape machines I salvaged. I have been stock piling material for years to build my mill and router. The company I worked for only used stainless steel so I learned to weld and machine parts out of salvage stainless. The design is based around all the possible uses I could come up with as well as materials I have laying around. I have been watching builds on here for a long time and incorporated a lot of design ideas into this build. I also like the no rust factor.
