looking around the net, and according to my FSwizard calculator i should be at 8000 rpm and 36ipm. thinking maybe i need to speed it up a little
Hey fellas,
working on milling some 1/2" wide slots in h13 approximately 1/2" deep. cutter is a TiALN coated 3/16 carbide. Right now speeds are 250sfm(ish) feed rates are around 7ipm. chip load is about .0005
I say "about" because I didnt program it just glanced at the mastercam settings.
So the tool has a bit of squealing to it, but it seems to be cutting fine. Just want to make it through these 4 slots without killing the cutter. current DOC is .188. should i just go ahead and cut it full depth? Using the mastercam peel path with a 6% stepover.
Advice is appreciated. first time cutting something this hard.

yeah milling hard material isn't as bad as one would think. it's just a little more important that you get your speed/feed/doc correct the first time!
too fast and it breaks .... too slow and it can burn out but surely the cutter supplier / manufacture would have that information ? 50 RC isn't that hard, I mill 74 RC parts
So I guess that makes me curious as to where those starting points are. I use fswizard right now on my tablet and it seems to be accurate, i just wonder where they get the values from. How do you know to use 900sfm or 1100? .... lol to think a few years ago 300sfm was scary.
