Doosan prides itself on being able to make or replace every part on every machine they have ever sold.
On Mecatec, some "never before replaced" parts might have a longer lead-time...but they are available.
Hi,
I just purchased a used 2006 Doosan Z290SMY as a starting lathe a few weeks ago. I am a bit worried to learn that Doosan might not carry spare parts for this old Mecatec machine??? Anyone here uses VDI equipped machines and how do they measure up to the BMT type? I mainly machine aluminum but will occasionally do steel and ductile iron.
Regards,

Hi vdang2k,
BMT is always better than VDI, ours had double Sauter VDI 30 turrets - 12 station live tools each, the alignment and adjustment of the axial tools is easier on BMT.
You need some good examples of nc-code to start with, the Blue Book is crap, examples in the book do not work properly.
Darryl (dhardt) and DougR on this forum gave me in 2014 a good PDF to start with, ..... DOOSAN-MECHATEC-PROGRAMING-MANUAL-OCR.pdf.
Ask the guys for it if you need it, I still have it and found another one myself.
I assume you have some CNC skills to start, it's not an easy machine to start with, it's an 8-axis lathe.
Thank you Heavy_Metal for the advice, especially the programming manual part. You don't mind if I will ask you a few things from time to time when I run into problem(s)? I am mainly a milling man & this is my first time running a lathe. I am planning to start off with a few simple projects using only the main spindle and a turret just to get a hang of the machine.
Thank you Darryl. It's reassuring to know there are parts available for an old machine. It isn't the case with Kitamura. Can I trouble you for a DOOSAN-MECHATEC-PROGRAMING-MANUAL-OCR.pdf to get started?
I am in service. I have no programming manuals.
