Default Switching gears on a Doosan Lathe.

We have several Doosan's, the lathes that do not have live tooling you can switch gears in the program using M41/M42. The live tooled lathes won't accept M41/M42 and M5 causes them to alarm out. What is the cause of this and how do I correct it?

    That depends.
    Which models of Doosan?

OK, on the Lynx series there is no gearbox. So the M40/M41/M42 commands are not needed. Lynx is a direct drive machine. The motor is unique in that if more power is needed, it engages more windings.
Also, on Lynx there is live tooling, so your M3/M4/M5 commands must have - on the same line - a "P" word to tell the machine which spindle you are commanding.
So, for SFM mode on the main spindle, it would be "G96 S500 M3 P11;"
for RPM mode on the live tool it would be "G97 S1000 M3 P12"

I think I tried the P11 once before but will try it again. What does the spindle gear button do on the controller if it doesn't have gears? We have a Puma 400 that definitely has gears because I use them everyday I just wish it had neutral. It would make it easier to balance off center work.

I'm not sure that button is live or not on Lynx.

The "P" word is essential. If you wanted to stop the main spindle, it would be "M5 P11."
