I bought a Ethernet Smooth Stepper ( ESS) with a MB3 BOB from CNCRoom.

not sure what is the difference between Ethernet and USB, is there any?
I'm looking for something reliable/stable/fast and with some room to expand.

UC300eth-5lpt is a good option. It also lets you run UCCNC, which is nice since Mach3 isn't being updated.
Purelogic PLCM-E3 and if you need a breakout board Purelogic PLCM-B1 with Pumotix software
