Default Advice and recommendations for replacing an ageing controller

We are using a laservibrometer to perform vibration scans on various objects.

The system consistsof an Aerotech U500 motion controller (PCI), and a pair of Aerotec1000DC servo motors, one of which is controlling a linear axis andthe other a rotation axis.
The motors havecontinuous torque rating of 135 OZ-IN.
The laser head ismounted on the linear axis.

We are looking toreplace the ageing Aerotech motion controller for two main reasons:
    1) Drivers are notsupported on versions of Windows newer than XP, and our IT departmentwants us to upgrade to reduce network vulnrabilities.
    2) It is hard tofind modern Desktop computer with a PCI slot. The card is also HUGEand need special large form factor PC case.

We have our ownscanner software and would plan to adapt our software to work withnew motion controller’s library/API.

I’m not an experton CNC motion control but it seems to me that our requirements mustbe pretty typical and we might be able to use an inexpensive generalpurpose motion controller, if such a thing exists?

I’d be veryinterested to have your insight into controllers we might consider. Also let me know if I am wrong in assuming we can use a genericmotion controller – i.e. is there some reason benefit to getting anewer controller from Aerotech, e.g. compatibility with the motors, cables etc.

    Thanks in advance!

Ah, that looks like it could be perfect. Thank-you for the suggestion ger21. I see there is even a sub-forum for KFLOP controller here on cnczone. Always a plus to have a decent community of users.
