Hi, I'm a high school technology teacher in New Zealand and have here a Camcut cnc router / engraver circa 1992. It was built in France, uses obsolete software and has a few electronic reliability issues.
It is quite robust and mechanically very good. Here's a link to an outdated website featuring the machine TechSoft CNC Machines for Technology Education
It is 3 axis with a 240v router, uses Easypower GS D200 2.5A stepper drivers, with each axis there is 8 motor wires on each which are paired to 4. There is limit switches and has ball screws.

I'm contemplating throwing out the control electronics and putting in new stuff so can use mach3 and decent cad programs with it.
All the stepper controllers and breakout boards on ebay seem pretty cheap and straightforward, but I don't want to open a can of worms and end up wasting $$.
So, i think I need:
3 of 4A stepper drivers
1 of Breakout board compatible with mach3
1 of power supply
And some way of driving a 240v ac router - not sure on that one yet.

Anyone else done something similar who has a gem of advice?

thanks
Patrick
