Default Deep indented mark at start point of carbon fiber

Deep indented mark at start point of carbon fiber

I did my prototype before sending my dwg file to a shop to cut a 5mm thick carbon fiber sheet for me.

The part suppose to be symmetry and smooth like the bottom part(green arrow), but the shop made a deep indented, drill mark(red arrow), which is 1 mm deep into my part.

The shop claim it to be the start point point the drill and it is unavoidable. ( I don't have such problem using my chinese cnc)

Anybody know what caused the indented mark? And what can I tell the shop to fix the issue?

    Thank you.

i would look at the fixturing

whatever they are doing they are consistent !

why do i think they are waterjet cutting this ??? if they are water jet cutting they are "piercing" to the inside/outside which will leave the "notch"
if the profile is critical, start the cut at a non-critical point or just cut outside towards part .

    how are they cutting this

They are using double sided tape for to hold the carbon fiber.

I think they are using cnc milling, not by waterjet, since there is milling marks on the side.

The tool path needs a leadin to eliminate that. Maybe it should be done in two passes, rough then a finish pass with leadout.

They didn't use a lead in or an overlap.
