Possibly fault with drive or motor
Hi. I just bought a Colchester tornado 200 with Fanuc 0T control. When I try to start the spindle it just starts to vibrate, and the load meter almost max out. It seems like it doesn't know which way to turn. I write commando M03. S500.
Could something have happened during transport when it was powerless?
Does anyone have any suggestions on what might be wrong?
Possibly fault with drive or motor
when it starts to vibrate give it a push in the direction it is suppose to spin and see if that helps. Let us know
Hi, thanks for the reply. I have tried that and it is impossible to spin it in any direction when M3 is activated. It says -- on the led display of the spindle driver, should it not say 00?
Hi yes it should say 00 on the amplifier
You say it is impossible to spin it in any direction .
Are you able to move the spindle by hand with the power off
Yes then it spins freely, but when i type in a M3 or M4 command it starts to vibrate. It may spin one eighth of a turn in each direction. I have put new home zero positions on the x and z axis. Could it have anything to do with it?
No that shouldn't affect it if it was working earlier I have sent you a message with WhatsApp details in it as you can send video of problem
Does this motor have an encoder on it?
No it's separate unit driven off belt on spindle
I think there is an encoder inside the motor.

If this were a normal 3 phase motor, this condition might suggest a dropped electrical leg to the motor. You say this occurred after transport? You may want to check all your motor connections.
I added a link to a video wich shows the problem

I have 3x 230v input power to the machine and 380v between phases. I have tried to change places between the phases with no result. Also meassured the resistance between phases on the motor and it was 0,4 ohm.
What's the transformer set at ?
It turned out to be a circuit board in the spindle amplifier which was broken.
It must have been broken when I bought the lathe from SHV in Denmark.
He does not want to compensate me for the repair, it is a risk you take when buying a used machine, he says.
Thanks for all the help and suggestions here on the forum.
Unfortunately that is the risk of not getting a warranty as part of the deal or getting the machine commissioned by the dealer
