Cutting a prototype section of a stock to test fit the inletting to the action before cutting the full stock. The wood was just some SPF plywood I had glued up from scrap.

I started cutting the full length stock in pine. Using a 1/2" 4 flute roughing end mill for the roughing tool paths on the sides. Major step down DOC .375" RDOC .125" 360 IPM feed rate.

Peter I am really happy with the machine. It is performing up to my expectations for the build. My next chore is the figure out how to set up a tool length setter to help automate manual tool changes a little bit. I would also like to add a spindle probe and figure out how to use it as a poor man’s CMM.

It is kind of never ending.
Cut some aluminum for bedding blocks to install in the stock. Next will be inletting the stock for the blocks to fit. Then epoxy them in place and machine the contours and bore the mounting holes.

Stock #1 of the new machine is done.
Simple lines in walnut and iron.
Another big advance for me on the machine is I now have the tool length sensor/probe setup and have figured out how to use the UCCNC probing functions for setting tool height. Once the first tool is set for Z zero, all the following tool changes for the job will use the tool length sensor to zero the new tool. It will be a really nice feature on the machine.

Hi Loren - Nice work. Do you model your stocks in Fusion? If so do you use solids or surfaces? Just out of interest. I'm just looking at surfaces in F360 at the moment.... Peter

Hi Peter, Thanks! I am modeling in Fusion and using it for CAM too. I am using solids to model. I have just not had the time to develop any skill at the B-spline surface modeling. It does look like a powerful tool for creating organic shapes. I guess in a way I need to develop my "right" CAD brain a little more for the free form functions...lol

Peter, it is a Precharged Pneumatic (PCP) air rifle. This one is a .308 caliber. Look up Airforce Texan (Not the plane). The tank holds 3000psi high pressure air.
