Default Weird surface on profile cuts

    Weird surface on profile cuts-20190409_175812-jpg

I just noticed this occurring on a job I just finished. I routed a total of 6 signs all had this type of finish on the edges.

    Material is kiln dried Maple.

Bit is a new Onsrud 40-112 1/4" downcut

    Any help is greatly appreciated

This is what the Separate Last Pass (offset) features in Vcarve and Aspire is meant to address. Usually on one of the sides of the Baltic Birch plywood I was cutting, I’d get a rougher cut and I’m sure it was due to the grain of the layers. So I added a separate .02” last pass with a depth of about .05” (modifying the pass depth so the first 2 passes went near full depth on the 3/4” plywood). Since adding this, all my cuts have been accurate and clean. You could also play around with which way you are cutting, climb vs conventional, as that could also impact cut quality.

Edit - I was looking for the Vectric manual but I at least found this, which shows a picture of the feature.

    You're getting deflection somewhere.
I make a single full depth finish pass of about .02", at about 150ipm.

I'd also recommend using a 3/8" bit, whenever possible.
