Thought I'd share my next activity.. I've really been having fun with a CNCRP PRO and a good 3D Printer.
I looked at the CNCRP dust hood and was looking at something a bit more interesting.
Also used this as a chance to learn more Fusion 360.
It's a work in progress.. I've learned how to assemble the whole Z-Axis into Fusion 360, and found a reasonably close model to my Chinese spindle (they are all slightly different
depending on your size/brand and power).
Objectives:
1. Look like it cost a thousand bucks
2. 3D Printable (so each part can't be bigger than 280x280x280mm in size on a Taz6) as much as possible. Possible to make Alu parts if needed.
3. Modular so it's easy to change parts/customise
4. I hate the idea of magnets, so thanks to 3D printing, some interlocking fingers and a single screw to lock it in place...
5. I use a Clearvue cyclone in my shop, and have 6" ducting everywhere.. objective is a minimum dust CNC machine
So here's the first instalment.. a mounting bracket that fits snugly around the CNCRP Tramming/Spindle plates, the spindle and bolts onto the 40 series extrusion rather than on the CNC spindle.
The full dust hood will expand out from this bracket..

That looks great I use a Kent CNC but I'd be interested in getting one of the top pieces to help hold my flexible hose in place.

Don't forget your dust shoe will need to be removable (like in a few seconds) to change your bits or there are times when you Need to watch and see the router bit cutting.

Some progress..
I took some time out to build a CNC enclosure for my Lulzbot Taz6 Printer. This was absolutely necessary as my 3D Printing designs were getting big and the ABS was warping. The enclosure is a success so I've been able to print my spindle components at high speed without warping (phew!)

Here is the design of the dust shoe taking shape.. as you can see there will be no magnets . The 3D printed brush holder will slide onto the plywood frame and be secured by a single wingnut (when I finish the design)

No more dust and a lot more noise .. but do one thing and you have to deal with another... 100% spoilboard and workholding is needed !!
The suction from the cover is so strong (at 1500cfm) that it is lifting the sheet off the table when the final depth cuts are made.

What spindle is the one you are using? If like to upgrade, but the cncrp one is not in the budget quite yet. Have you had it long? Does it meet your expectations?

The spindle is from eBay, and seems to be OK. It's a 300Hz max freq 18,000rpm 3.5kW ER25 which seems to have enough torque. Good value as I think spindles are a wear item in the long term,
and it's more than 1/2 cheaper than the CNCRP one.
As all the Chinese spindles come with different hole patterns, some re-work of the CNCRP tramming plate is required (the spec on the CNCRP supplied spindle is totally different to anyone else).
I thought that with spindles, you only have to replace bearings every so often. I wonder what the life expectancy of a spindle is.
