I wanted to have the ability to cut box joints and dovetails on my CNCRP machine. After some thinking and planning, I ended up adding an end vise on my Pro4896 machine and it seems like it's going to work out great!
I got the idea from Youtube video - credit to Dave Van Antwerp.
NOTE: I started with a Pro4848 and upgraded it to a 4896, so I suspect the supports may be in different locations...plan this out if you were to attempt it.
I used a Veritas twin screw vise (24" version here ), with 8/4 hard maple for the vise. I actually cut a test version out of 8/4 poplar to work through the kinks first.
I used T Studs to support the back of the vise, and hot glued them in place (measuring carefully).
I countersunk holes in the rear of the vise to allow for the nuts. Note that getting 8/4 maple aligned to all these studs required some patience and 'gumption' (and a big hammer).
Here is the vise mounted, before I cut back the spoilerboard:
As in the original Youtube video, I designed the vise with consumable top strips that would be re-surfaced with the spoilerboard, and then replaced if they get too low. Here's the final product with the spoilerboard cut back, the strips installed. Still needed to add 3/4 dowel used to plug the bolts that attach the strips to the vise.

Very nice setup! I wish I had more room to expand mine and would love to do something like this on it.
Looks great! Have you thought about adding a vertical fence to register stock against for quick squaring?
I haven’t used it yet - any suggestions for the vertical fence? Welcome any input / suggestions
I’ve seen a lot of people using bench dogs on the top of their clamps though that is usually for use with a set of bench dog holes in the table but no reason it wouldn’t work just fine for squaring.
