Default New CNC Router Parts 48x96 Router build coming soon

Ok so I've been on this forum for about 8 month or so trying to deal with several problems that ive been having with my used Machine Tool Camp 4'x8', and I'd like to thank everyone for all the help.

Saturday my wife said I could buy a new Pickup, but I had a great idea tonight that my wife agreed to. In stead of putting the money intovreplacing my 2015 pickup I'm going to order a CNCRP Pro48x96 router kit then in about a month I'm going to order the plug n play nema 34 system & some of the rest of the parts to finish the machine.

My plan is to go all CNCRP Pro Nema 34 system with Mach 3 except I plan to use my recently purchased & not really used yet Huan Yang VFD & 2.2kw air cooled spindle.

Can anyone give me any reason to not make this purchase, or what changes I should make. I've very excited to hopefully be able to start using my router.

    Thanks in advance
    Gary

You should have done this from the start. You'll be amazed at the difference.

Take care of your truck, and you should get a lot of years out of it. My 2013 still looks like new, and will easily last me another 5-7 years.

Thank Ger, I'm excited actually double excited, my wife (best wife ever) told me she wants me to get the truck now then order the start of the router in a month or so.

What is your & everyone else's thoughts on Mach3?

My personal belief is that it's been passed by the competition. I still use it on my old machine, but am moving to UCCNC moving forward.

With CNCRP, Mach3 is really your only option, unless you want to do your own control system, as their plug and play kit only works with Mach3. (I believe it will work with Mach4 as well.)

Mach3 is still very popular, and it's user base is far larger than any other hobby controls. I would think that at least 90% of the members here have used Mach3 at some point, and a large percentage are still using it.

I have a couple questions about what everyone using with their CNCRP Pro 48x96.

What is being used for a spoil board typically I'll be routing / engraving wood, PVC & cutting out ACP products like DiBond but I'll like to occasionally do some aluminum fab work for personal hobby products. I know I'll need some way to mist a coolant but how fast will that warp my spoil board material?

What is everyone doing for hold down? T-bar Clamps, nylon nails / braids, screwing down the material, tape & glue, double sided tape or a vacuum table(I'll need to wait on this).

Has anyone used a Huan Yang VFD & Chinese router with CNCRP's plug n play unit?

    Thanks in advance
    Gary

So far my progress on getting CRP Pro to work with mach4 is going very well (I already had Mach4 and didn't want to buy Mach3). I believe those are the only 2 options if you go with their pre-configured electronics which i do recommend unless you really know what you're doing or want to invest some good time working out the kinks. With a good deal of detective work and finally the help of CRP i have everything working but have yet to do any serious testing. I think they will release a pre-config mach4 soon. I know they're working on it.

As far as clamping i too am investigating. After much poking around youtube, etc i have come to the conclusion that a vacuum table is more work than necessary...for me...and T-slots every foot or so along the x axis with replaceable boards in-between is the direction I'm heading. I have lot's of smaller scrap MDF around the shop. Many seem to have very good success with the painters tape and CA glue method but I don't hear many good things about double sided tape.

This is a pic before I milled the holes for plastic bolts. I've used this for several months with good success. I cut several extra inserts so I could replace them when needed. At this time it's still in perfect condition. I have several various size pieces of scrap hardboard I use under projects before clamping work down. I'm toying with the idea of fabricating a aluminum plate assembly with a low box that would clamp to my spoilboard and then have it's own clamping system. It would be designed to contain spray mist and protect the spoilboard..

    Thanks all,
Ger21 as always your a great source of knowledge.

Fabrik8r when I purchased my MTC router there was a few t-slots lots (I never got to even open the box because I was never able to get the router running long enough to worry about it, but I did try to figure out the best way to lay out the slots. I considered purchasing intersecting slots so I could create a grid, but that would cause a lot of hassle with small spoil board squares that I'm not sure I want to deal with.

GigaWatt - what do you mean plastic bolts? How far apart are your T-slots?

I mostly would screw the workpiece directly onto the spoil board and use double sided tape to hold down the center of the corkboard to keep pieces that may fly way with very good results. With your with T-Slot setup how do you keep the small routed pieces from flying around?

Once I get my new router what can I do with my existing router? It's in working condition just too much movement as a 4x8 for a router for our sign shop (I just have to run it so slow for a production environment)

    Thanks in advance
    Gary

I've debated about a grid but always come back to just width of table slots. That's a much more common way to do it with CNC. I agree...too much hassle with all the small pieces.

    Sell it on Craigslist.

I leave a thin onion skin, (~.005") and just pop the parts loose, and clean the edge with a sanding block.

Ger21 - The 2 issues I have with that is unless I sell it with the Spindle it isn't a working unit and mostly Knowing the limitations it has I wouldn't feel comfortable selling it to someone the way it was sold to me, thinking it would be a good machine.

I was considering parting out the control system (minus the spindle) with Rack & Pinion & Z Plate and selling that to someone on one of the forums that wants to convert a lathe or mill and scrapping the aluminum. My other thought was to sell it to someone with the spindle letting them know the limitations with the idea that they would cut it down to a much smaller size router, that I think it would be a competent machine if the linear rails aren't 8' long, but I may be wrong. and to top this entire paragraph off I wouldn't have any idea what to charge, I have just about $5,000 ($4,000 for the router originally and about $1000 for the spindle and VFD) into it and I know it isn't worth that, It's worth more than $1000 for the spindle but I wouldn't know where to start.

    Thanks
    Gary

I really don't know what to tell you. I think your best option is to sell it as is, without the spindle, for whatever you can get.
    Or just sell the parts.
Either way, you'll likely take a big loss from your original $4000, as what you bought was not worth anywhere near $4000.

Yeah I realize that now. I was thinking if I could get 2,500 to 3,000 with the new spindle & vfd I'd be happy or is that still to much?

    Gary,
To answer #8, my t-slots are 6" on center. The slots are bolted thru the spoilboard for extra strength. As you can see in the pick my inserts are rabitted to overlap the t-slots. Each insert has 4 recessed bolt holes for 8mm nylon. This setup provides for strong clamping power.

    Hi Gary
I run a std crp2448 with crp nema setup, i use the hy vfd with the chinese 2.2 spindle and the rs485 to control the spindle speed and it all works really sweet.
Mine is a water cooled version and the whole setup is so quiet i get no complaints from her indoors now.

My spoil board is as Peter P of nz did and use T Track and works fab

Gigawatt - thank you that looks like it would work great. How thick are your spoil boards to start with? How deep are your recessed holes? I would assume about 1/2 way through the spoil board to allow more resurfacing. What do you do hold down small pieces? Tabs or d.s. tape?

Bernie - thank you that makes me full a lot more comfortable, but I'm going to let my newb, show. What is an RS458? Is that the controller / knob on the huan yang controller or is there another piece I'll need to purchase.

This part of my post may need reposted in a different place on this forum but, I'm still considering building a vacuum table (not sure if I will build a whole table or just a smaller piece (2x4 or so) to mount when I need it, but if I do a larger piece or the whole table I'd like to have valves to turn off sections (probably 2' x 4' or so), when they aren't in use, can anyone tell me if a large shop vac or a vacuum for a commercial car wash vacuum would be enough for a 4x8 lr would I need multiple vacuums?

Many Mach3 users control their spindles using Modbus and a plugin, often this one.
Mach3 plugin for Huanyang VFD | Le royaume d'éole

You use an RS-485 serial connection to control it. A simple USB adapter like this is all you need.
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

No, a single shop vac is not enough for a 4x8 table.
But, it depends on the table design, and how aggressively you are cutting, as well as the type of material.
Some people use 3 or 4 vacuum motors for a 4x8 table, and even that may not be enough for small parts.

Gerry - thank you for the link to the app. I also looked at the RS485 Adaptor what connects to it that allows you to adjust the speed of the spindle? It just looks like a thumb drive with a wire connection on the rear of it?

    Thanks
    Gary
