Am I the only one who misses windows 98? LOL. Touch screen optimization is the bane of my existence...

    It was .062.
I was setting up a new laptop and had the patch all ready and decided to try it without it.
It worked so I thought the info might help figure out what's happening.

As has been said so often here and elsewhere, your CNC PC should NOT be connected to the internet. This works surprisingly well.

Perhaps the update only affect Mach3 if it's already installed. Maybe installing it after the update is the trick, regardless of the version?
I much prefer the patch to reinstalling Windows.

That would imply that doing a thorough reinstall of Mach3 would fix the issue.
So, I tried it and it worked. I used Revo Uninstaller, it does a very though job.

I much prefer the patch to reinstalling Windows.
    I was never suggesting that.

I guess, my updates are slow. My Windows 10 update ran yesterday. tried to load Mach 3 today and it would not load. Came on here to see if anyone else had the issue, and sure enough you're way ahead of me. only issue is I am still running Version R2 of Mach3 I guess I need to upgrade. Will I have to reset my machine settings?

You do have the option of rolling back but then you’ll need to ignore updates and disable the Windows Update Service. Check for an earlier post from me in this thread with that info

There is a patch for Mach3. Install that.

I had to install the patch for a second time after a Win10 update. This is getting frustrating so I will likely disable updates. My daughter gave me a new desktop for the cnc router. I installed the 062 version of Mach3 with the patch. I updated the computer with all of the latest Win updates however 2 day later it downloaded more updates which caused Mach3 to fail again.

Late to the party here, but as usual CNCRP customer service is incredible.

Just thought I'd follow up that even with the Windows Update service disabled, Windows just forced the update to Windows 10 version 1803. Even worse it rebooted during a work day between uses of the CNC. Not cool.

And the worst part is that it is all YOUR fault. YOUR fault.
Experienced CNC owners NEVER leave their CNC machine connected to the internet, for precisely this reason. We know this happens.
    YOUR fault.

Well I have an IT background and this is the first time I’ve had a machine install updates when set to not install updates. I know Microsoft has research showing machines without updates are virtual virus farms so maybe they’ve taken it upon themselves to protect their reputation and stop letting people NOT keep their systems updated. Maybe but not cool.

Regardng your point about not plugging the machine into the network, maybe, and I’ll have to consider it. But that is my CNC machine, not my design machine. I use cloud syncing to move files between my work laptop and the CNC machine. Maybe I should use a USB key but that would be a royal pain. Good thing I keep backups and a secondary CNC computer (offline) just in case.

I too have an IT background - back to the start of the 70s. But I have never met any other company which so ignores the customer's wishes as MS. But then, who else writes such awful SW?

My design PC is connected to the internet, with all updates turned off (how to avoid having W10 stuffed down your throat), but the PC running my CNC is NOT connected. Both are actually W7, and they will stay that way. File transfer between the two is via USB-net, and it is not problem at all. The USB key usually lives in my pocket anyhow.

    Cheers

The latest version of Windows 10 Pro has added more options on their Update page. There's now a setting to "pause" updates for 35 days. But there's no way to stop them.
So I'd consider setting the Pause, and every 30 days or so manually update yourself, so you don't get any surprises.

If you want to completely stop updates, stop using Windows.

If you are using Mach3, you have ONLY got Windows.
All is solved by removing the internet connection.
