    Default Can I convert a PRO4896 to a PRO4848?

I am wondering how hard it would be for me to convert a PRO4896 to a PRO4848? The space and layout I have is much better suited to a smaller machine and I have an opportunity to buy the larger machine at a good price. Could I simply cut the main rails down to the appropriate length? If I did that would I be able to join them back together in the future if I wanted to expand back to the full 96 inches again?

    Thanks,
    Craig

If you really think you might want to make it 96" in the future, I'd contact CNCRP and buy a set of shorter rails, and store the longer ones. They shouldn't be too expensive.

It should be as simple as cutting everything shorter. Extrusions, gear racks, and linear rails.

The base side frame extrusions are in 2 pieces joined together with 2 splice plates. Here is a link to the assembly manual. http://www.cncrouterparts.com/cad/20...v2016Q1_14.pdf

You can reduce it to 4848 although you may need to buy some minor parts. You will need to make changes in Mach3 also.

My 4896 has one piece long rails and racks.on the Y axis. I live locally so they gave me ones that run full length. I agree for many they did it in two sections on each side. You need to keep the longer of the two... you need to keep the over hang on the back side of the machine (at maximum Y)

It should be reasonably straight forward.

Move the control boxes to the back half of the machine, Shorten the cable track and remove the front tray. Take the front half the machine table off.

But in the end, yes its a reasonably straight forward task if there are already spliced rails. And since its made to be expandable... its made to be reduced too
