Hello,
I recently acquired a 98 arrow 1000 with a "spindle drive is not responding" 39-81 alarm. I sent the VFS5 in for a rebuild (Kilroy corp) and installed with the same alarm. I've hooked up motion link plus software and get "ERR 17 FEEDBACK LOSS".
The lights on the drive are as follows:
active=off (i have never seen this on)
sys ok=on
cpu=on
fault= on (sometimes on startup it will be off but will not try and align spindle and will eventually fault)
I have checked a few things but my knowledge is limited.
ensured 230VAC to the machine
checked spindle motor for short
resolver feedback via motion link and set to zero
Checked for overloaded relays/breakers/fuses
Any and all help is greatly appreciated
thank you

Mike Kilroy spent time with me on the phone and remotely on motion link diagnosing the issue, we found the resolver to be at fault. A big thank you to Mike for all his help!
no, I have yet to order a resolver.
Hi Mike,
I have the same machine and the same alarm: 39-81 "spindle drive is not responding".
A few weeks ago, I had to change the bearings of the spindle motor (1-604-0001). They were severely damaged. I already replaced them.
Then, as Natin did, I've hooked up motion link plus software and get "ERR 17 FEEDBACK LOSS" and I've hooked up motion link plus software and get "ERR 83 BAD OR OUT OF RANGE".
Again, as Natin did, I have checked a few things but my knowledge is limited.
ensured 230VAC to the machine
checked spindle motor for short
resolver feedback via motion link and set to zero (I am not able to set the zero)
Checked for overloaded relays/breakers/fuses
and the needle on MotionLink, tab "Resolver Feedback", runs smoothly.
Should I also have to change the resolver? If so, can you provide me with SIemens part number or even a quote?
Again, as Natan said, any and all help is greatly appreciated!
Thank you
