    Default Spindle not square

I just received a Chinese 6040 router. I wanted to surface my spoilboard that I added using a 1 inch Whitehall bit with a 1/4 inch shank , but it's not cutting flat. I'm new at this and I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if it's the machine and what I should do about it .I don't want to screw anything up so I thought I ask before I do anything the machine is a CNCEST if that helps

Could you clarify your comments? Is the spindle tilted and thus producing a ridged surface or are the tracks not straight and co-planar?Neither of these are good situations but with most machines a lot of improvement is possible.

I guess the best way to describe it is that if you facing the gantry and it's running along the Y axis front to back the right side of the bit is cutting deeper than the leftleaving ridges all the way down the Y axis

You can do the job quite adequately without buying one of those gadgets to use in the collet.A plain bar of silver steel of the diameter to suit the clamp that comes with a dti will enough. Then just sweep the tip of the dti through an arc and see what you get.I have had less than 0.001" show on an 8 inch radius after adjustment. For most purposes 0.002" on a 3 inch radius will be pretty good.In an ideal world you would repeat the process once you have skimmed the spoilboard and verified that it is truly flat;as I mentioned in my earlier post the possibility of the tracks being dished exists and tramming the head in one location just means that you will be correct at that spot.
