Default basic help for newbie cnc milling - z axis needs double

Hi, I am totaly new. Just trying first pieces create in my Milling CNC 3020t 4 Axis USB CNC Router.
I am using software: CNC USB Controller. It looks OK but I have some question.
    1. axis x and y is same like in Gcode, in mm. and result is OK.
But axis Z I need to twice in ccode. For example if I am working with 5mm plexi glass (acrylic)
I was trying to set Z for -6 ... little bit more than 5mm height.
But I have to set it to value 12 and it means that I will have 6mm in reality.
    Why?

Hi - In the config area of the CAM you will need to change the steps per unit value of the Z axis so it movement corresponds to the correct distance. Apparently this value needs to be halved....Peter
