It's a long shot but it could be a noise issue.
Check your grounding and earth connections.

I got an aluminum profile (rails) 3 axis dual drive cnc (x2 motors on x). I'm getting about an 1/2" of drift on one of the sides, can't figure this out? Measure both sides, turn on controller enter DeskCNC load up a test file like smallsquare.nc and after I run it it seems fine?
I measure it and the drift starts out by being over 1 or 2mm on one side? Anybody know what this problem could be? Here is a link to the cnc I've got and all the parts I have:

I was thinking more along the lines of a bad driver? I've checked all the drivers
seems as though the Left X motor is not holding enough torque, plus there's a weird high pitch faint squeal only on that motor. Its definitely the driver. CRAP!!

Hi Anton, I'm Alton. I must say that I have always admired the machines on pdjinc. Your welcome pdj. They are clearly no nonsense and simple. And nice looking. I did notice though, that the wires that they sell are not shielded. I bought a used cnc router with Deskcnc and it has the same type wires. The wires are not shielded. This may be the cause. I am losing steps and basically having the same issue as you. As for you, I would think that pdjinc should be able to help you with this matter. Though, they may refer you to Deskcnc. If you solve your problem, I would be greatful if you could share it with me. And likewise, if I solve mine, I will do the same. I have tested my machine slowly and thoroughly and still losing steps. It runs very smooth. I added the line PULSEWIDTH=20 to the Controller section of the config file. This helped a little. Your settings may or may not allow this setting. My next step will be shielding all of the cables and grounding the machine frame and control box enclosure. Why take chances? Best of luck. Alton
