I’m replacing some gears in a Bridgeport Romi Easypath 15” x 40” lathe, and am looking for info on preloading the spindle bearings. Amazingly enough, Romi could get me the gears but not tell me how to set the spindle bearings. It has a moving race on the outboard (left side) bearing that has a series of springs to provide some float as things expand / contract. It seems like that would make preload setting more forgiving, but I’d still like to get it close as possible to design intent. Does anyone have experience with these?
