I just adjust until there is oil seeping out of everything. I would rather have some oil on the floor rather than not enough oil on the ways.
Hey Guys,
anyone familiar with the oiling systems on the Boss machines ? so far i have rebuilt the Bijur pump / changed the filter, threw all the manifolds in the ultrasonic cleaner, blew out all the lines and replaced all the metering blocks. Who ever had this machine prior to my purchase removed the metering block going to the head thus creating an imbalance in oiling of the machine. Now that i have that corrected, i also see that there are grub screws in the saddle For the X Ways. . i am assuming that these adjust the amount of oil that goes to the x dovetails versus the x ways. is there any proper way to check the adjustment of this ? Lack of proper oiling WILL be catastrophic.
super stoked to get this part functioning so i can work on the new Centroid / Servo setup working !
thanks
Joe

Jim, what im concerned with here is the x oilers.. the grub screw seem like they adjust the amount of oil that goes to the x dovetails versus the x ways i guess the ways would need more oil than the dovetails.. but its hard to see once the table is installed and hard to adjust with the table off since the dovetails would not be there to restrict the flow somewhat..
am i saying that right ?
thanks
Joe
I just look at the seepage at the ends of the ways on the saddle. If I have some oil coming out on both ends then I'm happy. A finger wiped across the exposed surfaces after running a bit will tell you if it's getting oil. Just a film of oil is enough to prevent metal to metal contact.
