Just bought a Series 1 Mk2 Interact which has known control issues but the iron is in very good condition. Whilst not starting immediately, the plan is to replace the control system with a Centroid controller, new steppers etc. I am happy with all of the plans for that but am now looking at the spindle motor. There is a massive amount of control gear for the motor in order to provide sufficient quality power for a 5hp dc motor! So my thoughts are that the whole system could be simplified with a 5hp ac motor with a vfd controlled from the Centroid. I would appreciate thoughts from any of you on the practicality of this.
