Machine is here !!
Hi guys,
Think i have gathered enough information to throw this post out there.. Picked up a 3 axis tilty head Boss ( will be delivered tomorrow... so pics will follow ) after reading and re reading many of the excellent threads here i feel like i have decided on my upgrade path. First, i want to say that there are more than a few talented people here and i am inspired to up my game after seeing some of the things you have built and designed. and i want to thank you all ALREADY for all the info that i have absorbed ( or at least i think i have absorbed )
im intimidated on keeping the original servos .. ( im not that good at electronics and the power supply kinda freaks me out ) not to mention all the wiring. )
so here goes
Bridgeport Boss 3 axis Mill
Linux CNC
Mesa Cards 5 axis ( still on the fence on pci or network )
DMM Servos
hoping to have power lube / fog buster / tool height / draw bar automated
Looking forward to having you all along for the ride !

would you guys know if these are steppers or servos ? and what voltage / amps / and how they are wired ? maybe i can keep them and just install new drivers there are what looks like hour meters on the motor housings the x has 700 and the y has 800 wonder if thats all the time this machine has seen.. ways are exceptional
here is one of the motors... there are no external tags with model numbers etc on them
This would be a good place to start https://www.cnczone.com/forums/bridg...ko-keling.html

That machine has steppers, it looks like a almost new machine, very clean
just pulled off the y axis stepper... reached out to DMM to see what they would recommend
any reason to try and keep the y axis lock and the travel dial ?
So your mill is either a Boss5 or older Boss series as Boss6 has 2:1
Just check I think Dmm may have the right nema size motor flange, you won't need an adapter plate if they have this size mounting flange, they have 2 different motors one is NEMA and the other is ISO/metric

Looks like they have the high voltage 200 volts model that will fit it is 1.3 kW do i need one with a brake ? or not

Mactec, would you make this out of steel or aluminum?
Most I have done them in 12L14 I think the Y axes is the only one you have to do this way I would not be sure though, some have brought a new aluminum pulley with a boss on it that can make up for the needed extra length, this is about the same amount of work as modifying the original pulley, the adapter mounting plate 3/8 minimum thickness
