Many such encoders have the glass scale cemented to the shaft, these are factory aligned making it just about impossible to dismantle.
What are you trying to do, clean it?

Hi, looking for advice on how the handwheel encoder comes apart after removing the outer can. I can't see how to access the area where the infra red bulb sits as the round glass scale is in the way, and can't seem to get the spindle to push out that the scale is fixed to.
Any advice welcome, thanks, Bob, London uk

I understand the bulbs to be difficult to obtain and require perfect alignment, I have heard of LED's being used, the sensor actually picks up infra red not visible light. Bit academic now you have broken the scale.
