Extrude not working

i select a circle type set lines and it extrudes only the lines and not the solid within the lines.
What am I missing?

Do you mean it is like image BOX-1 and you want it like image BOX-2 ??

If yes then look at BOX-3 image and when you do the extrude make sure the "With Caps" button is clicked
